Fears | Crying, Rollercoasters And Social Situations

Hey guys
So I thought I would do a more personal blog post. All of us have fears, so I wanted to share some random ones I have.

One thing I haven't mention here on Laura Thinks About is my fear of crying. This is something I've had since I can remember. I get very anxious to cry or get really upset in front of people. I feel like it's frowned upon for me to let myself get so emotional in front of people or even admit to it. I know you're probably all reading this thinking there's nothing wrong with crying in front of people, and I know that! I have no problem with others becoming emotional in front of me (ok yea sometimes I can be awkward but I don't judge them for it.) I actually love helping people who are so upset that they've needed to cry and enjoy making people feel better - probably by cracking up a stupid joke.
I have of course cried in front of people before, but it takes a lot for me to get to that stage. I kind of try and brush my emotions under the carpet. I think it is quite unhealthy to be like that, but it's just how I deal with things. Sometimes if something has really upset me I would cry in private and not tell people. I think this has something to do with being and staying "strong".

I have always been scared of roller coasters. I mean REALLY scared. As I said I don't cry in public situations often but I'm telling you I'm 99% sure I would cry before going on a roller coaster. I actually get the shakes! I remember my dad used to blackmail me to go on them. He would be like I'll buy you this toy if you go on a roller coaster with me, so I used to force myself whenever I would go to a theme park with him. Whilst most kids were excited to go to theme parks, I would be feeling dread lol. My dads not all bad by the way, he just wanted someone to go on them with -since my mum wouldn't and my brother was too young at the time. The thing is I actually really want to like going on roller coasters! I literally wouldn't go on one of the big ones for a lot of money hah. Well depends what the offer is ;) .

My fear for certain situations has been around since school. I do think it started when I was in primary school. Poor little me lol. No but seriously. I think, it goes back to the days when the teacher would say "get into groups of two" or whatever and I would be asking to go with someone and they would be like no and I'd never get asked. I remember especially in secondary school, drama class was one of the worst. I would get very bad anxiety before school when I knew I had some kind of class in which I would know I would have to find someone to be in a group with. I've kind of become protective of myself now. I avoid most kind of situations in which I would risk that feeling of standing on my own. Saying that though, the older I've got the less I've cared and to be honest it hasn't really happened that much in adult life. It's funny how things growing up can really effect you!

So yea that's a little personal post for you guys!

  5. There was also a time i had fears to cry, but I learned it that crying doesn't make you weak, in fact, it release you and makes you stronger for the next step. I always had that fear too at school but all I did was to follow the flow and if I don't get involved, i didn't give a shit. They always hated me anyway ^^. I also hate snakes and especially worms, let me say insects and also that dream where I get naked in front of a crowd ^^. So don't worry, we all have our deep fears, the most important is to learn how to live with them ;-). Have a nice WE

  6. I have fear of heights, but only if I feel like I'm unprotected. I can be chilling on a rooftop bar but I'll get super anxious if I have to get on top of a table. Ahah

  7. I think it's always healthy to talk about our fears, I know a lot of people share your dislike of rollercoasters! After all, it's pretty unnatural to be flung about up and down high in the air!

  10. Loved how open and honest you were in this post Laura. I've been terrified of dying since I was very young, I remember being in tears at the age of about 7 because I was scared my mum was going to die. I'm still just as bad and so frightened of it that it can wake me in the middle of the night and stop me from sleeping sometimes. I agree that situations we find ourselves in can impact us in our adult lives. I'm with you on rollercoasters; as a teenager I'd be the one waiting with the bags while all my friends went on the massive rides that scared the hell outta me! Fears are awful, I guess the silver lining is that sometimes they can make us stronger in the long run <3
