Do Your Friends And Family Know About Your Blog?

Chatty post time! ;)
After watching Patricia’s Youtube video which was about her You Tube story, I felt really inspired by how much she achieved! There was one thing she mentioned in the video, which was how she kept her You Tube channel a secret from her friends and family! And now her channel is really successful!..                                                                    Her video is here; - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSFYmrvGg3I
Anyways I thought I would share and query with my fellow bloggers about how much you separate your blogging/You Tube life to your “real life”

I had a You Tube Channel But my younger brother found out about it last year, and decided to show my mum! Cringe! I really enjoyed making the videos (which were from beauty to comedy) and I racked up 700 subscribers within around 8 months (that was a lot to me!) I even decided to show 2 of my best friends 2 of the videos, and they cracked up, which was a good thing because they were my “comedy” style videos. BUT they didn’t support me at all, and are oblivious to the world of You Tube, (they only use it for music.) SO after all my hard work, I decided to not be on You Tube anymore *sad face*

The reason I don’t show my friends and family my blog is because I had a blog before, and even though I had support from some of my friends I felt I would be “judged” for every single post I put on my blog and so I had no motivation.  Although I do not show anyone this current blog, I still tell people I’m into blogging, they always ask me to see it, but even though I really want to show the people.. I won’t. One day I will, but not until I feel the blog is at a point in which I can say I’m proud of it..

So ye that’s my story, but I’m really interested to know if any other bloggers or youtubers share their online productivity? Do you have support? And do you feel embarrassed?
Thanks for reading    :)

  1. My sister, my boyfriend, and my best friend all know about my blog, but I haven't told anyone else and I'm not sure I will. I told my boyfriend because I tell him everything, he thought it was cool, and as a web designer even designed my blog for me :)
None of my other friends though are into the beauty thing really, so I don't think they'd understand if I told them!

  2. My family and some friends know that I blog, but very few friends have seen it, and only one friend actually reads it. It's a little sad actually because blogging is becoming a bigger part of my life, but I'm really scared to let them see it.

  3. Only one or two people know I blog - it's a hobby but one I feel weird about sharing with people who know me right now!
It kind of feels like my diary which the world can read but which I don't want my family and friends to, haha!

  4. My boyfriend knows about my blog - I'm always blogging so would be difficult keeping it from him!
I can only think of a few friends I wouldn't want to show my blog to - mainly because at least one will always belittle anything I achieve and another just is incapable of understanding why people do things she's not interested in.
I don't think I'd bother telling my mum unless I really started getting somewhere; she'll walk into my room and point to my beauty collection and call it 'rubbish' even though they're things I use constantly so, again, I wouldn't share it with her out of her not sharing the interest at all!

It took a lot for me to even show some friends the music reviews I do for my uni radio station - though when I actually did they were surprised with how good I actually was at it - never know, may turn out the same with my blog!

    1. that's not being a really good friend if they belittle anything good you achieve :( and yah my mum walked in once when I was trying to take pictures of some beauty products for the blog, I reckon she thought I was weird!

  5. My friends and family know, mostly because I'm not very good at keeping things quiet! I can completely understand why some people do keep it 'secret' though, my sister wasn't all that supportive at first.

  6. My little piece of advice is to do what makes you happy!! You will always have people that don't support you, but I think it's good for growth. At the end of the day it's your life and what makes you happy. Period.

  7. I just came across this post and it's such a good question.. I'm like the majority as my family and friends know I have a blog, I just don't show them it! Like you said, I feel like I'm being judged and I like to keep my blog to myself and other bloggers, people who have the same interests as myself and love blogging :-) Non-bloggers just wouldn't understand, haha. x

  8. Such a good question!

My boyfriend knows about it, and has glanced over it, but isn't too bothered going further than that (I think this is because I've just started though).

I've got a couple of other friends that do blogs, but they are different to mine, and I put links up on Twitter and my instagram, but not my Facebook. I suppose it's because I have a different circle of friends on there, and out of all the social channels it's my least favourite.

I definitely put off making a blog for a long time because I felt embarrassed, but in the end I though sod it! And although I'm still not altogether comfortable putting myself out there, the comments and help I've received has definitely helped me get over that :)

Not that you have anything to worry about, you blog is great!

    Hmm maybe...

I put it up on facebook put I took it off soon after cause idk it was weird for my classmates to see it, luckily only two people saw it and they were in my chamber group and one of them actually liked it a lot and thought it was cool so yeah :)

  12. My family know, I don't mind them seeing it. I'm more skeptical of what my friends think. My close friends know but not everyone. I've always been a bit shy about my writing (which is silly seeing as I studied Journalism at uni haha) but I think that's why I started my blog in the first place, need to get over that shyness if I'm gunna get anywhere! :)

    Great post idea too! :D

No way I can't believe you ditched the youtube after getting somewhere with it, yup 800 subs is a lot! my family, friends and boyfriend all know of my blog and I sometimes even show them posts if I think on. I've posted links on twitter and instagram before but I don't do it monotonously, probably only two or three times. everyone is different though and have their blog for different reasons :) good talking point
